Ghirelli Sets Record in Czech Republic

Most, Czech Republic – It was a record-breaking weekend for Vittorio Ghirelli at Most, the fifth round of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and the final event of the regular season. The Apulian driver once again proved to be the undisputed master of the weekend, driving his #24 Camaro to set a new track record and securing his fifth consecutive SuperPole, yet another record for EuroNASCAR.

The weekend started perfectly for Ghirelli, who first posted the fastest time in both free practice sessions and then remained unbeatable in both qualifying and the SuperPole: “In the timed sessions, the competitors got a bit closer compared to the free practices. This pushed us to give our best, and we set a new EuroNASCAR track record at Most! Five SuperPoles out of five, which means all of them in 2024, is a fantastic record that demonstrates an incredible consistency in competitiveness,” commented Vittorio Ghirelli, who nearly swept both races. “I’m very happy with the weekend, despite a mistake with tire pressures. We won Race 1 and posted the fourth fastest lap time, which allowed us to start from the second row on Sunday. In Race 2, we lost a bit of time in the early stages but eventually moved into P2. It was a very intense race, almost like a 30-minute qualifying session. We got close to first place but it wasn’t enough, and I didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks.”

With the regular season over, EuroNASCAR now enters the heart of the action with the PlayOffs, which will include the SemiFinals in Germany and the Finals in Belgium: “Four races with double points where the key is not to make mistakes. We have a good points cushion, but due to the regular season’s drop-score rule, we had to discard an eighth place, while other drivers discarded much worse results and gained points. No big deal, I’m driving well, and the car is always fast. We’ll aim to win at Oschersleben and Zolder – we have everything it takes to compete at our best!”
